Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival

Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival

The annual Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival is back from Saturday 17th August to Sunday 25th August, paying homage to Japan’s seasonal beauties. It’s being held at the Auburn Botanic Gardens, where you can stroll through a tunnel of pink blooms and appreciate Japanese culture (without having to fly all the way to Land of the Rising Sun).

The tradition of hanami (blossom viewing) and food go hand-in-hand at Japan’s traditional festivals. Here, chef and TV presenter Adam Liaw will create an exclusive bento box inspired by the blooms. Wash the meal down at the izakaya-style pop-up bar where you can get your hands on Hanamikura Aya sake, which is crafted with a rare yeast extracted from the blossoms themselves. There’ll also be other food trucks and market stalls to keep you sated.

Cherry blossoms aside, the festival caters to lovers of Japanese music, film and cosplay with a variety of events during its 10-day run, so you can start your day with a leisurely tour and finish it watching a sumo fight.

Price is $7.50
